What Is This Stuff?

Sonoran Salve started the way most good things start — out of pure stubbornness.

Spending time in the Arizona desert does things to your skin that no drugstore lotion was built to handle. We’re talking dry air, relentless sun, rocks, dirt, cactus encounters to the backside you’d rather not talk about. After years of cracked hands and skin that felt like it belonged on a lizard, I started making my own salve. Something thick enough to actually work and made with ingredients I could pronounce.

Turns out, it worked. Then friends wanted some. Then strangers at craft fairs wanted some. And here we are.

This is the original formula — the one that started it all. A little goes a long way. Rub it into dry, rough, beat-up skin and let it do its thing.

What’s It Smell Like?

Lavender, rosemary, and frankincense. Think “desert apothecary,” not “grandma’s bathroom.” It’s warm, earthy, and herbaceous — the kind of scent that fades into the background after a few minutes instead of announcing your arrival from three rooms away.

What’s In It

Every tin is handmade in small batches in southern Arizona. No synthetic fragrances, no fillers, no mystery goop.

Key Ingredients:

•       Olive Oil — The workhorse. Deep moisture that your skin actually absorbs instead of sitting on top like a greasy afterthought

•       Beeswax — Creates a protective barrier that locks everything in without suffocating your skin

•       Shea Butter — Rich, thick, and packed with vitamins A and E. There’s a reason this stuff has been used for centuries

•       Vitamin E — Antioxidant that supports skin repair and helps the formula stay fresh

•       Frankincense, Rosemary & Lavender Essential Oils — Real essential oils, not synthetic fragrance from a lab. They smell great and they’re good for your skin

•       Rosemary Antioxidant — A natural preservative that keeps the oils in the formula stable. Not enough to smell — just enough to do its job

Full ingredient list on every tin. Because you should know what you’re putting on your skin.

FAQ

But Wait, Why Is a Treasure Hunting Site Selling Salve?

Fair question. Short answer: because the desert is rough on skin, and the stuff I made for myself turned out to be really, really good.

Buried Expectations is about getting outside, exploring, and digging up cool stuff in the Arizona desert. Sonoran Salve is what keeps my hands from turning into beef jerky while I do it. It started as a personal solution and became its own thing. Think of it as survival gear for your skin.

“Is this just lotion in a tin?”

Nope. Lotion is mostly water. This is an anhydrous (water-free) salve — just oils, butters, and beeswax. No water means no preservatives needed, and it lasts a lot longer on your skin than lotion does.

“How long does a tin last?”

Depends on how much you use, but most people get 4–8 weeks out of a tin with daily use. A little goes a long way — start with a pea-sized amount.

“What about shelf life?”

Stored in a cool, dry place, your tin should stay good for about a year. The rosemary and vitamin E antioxidants in the formula helps keep the oils fresh for as long as possible..
